Bison Burgers with Balsamic Ketchup

  • 1 lb ground bison
  • 1 tsp. sambal oelek, chili paste
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 2 tsp. balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tsp. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c ketchup
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/3 c grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp. Better Than Bouillon® Beef Base
  • 4 Hamburger buns, split and toasted


  1. Heat the grill to 450° F. In a large bowl combine the bison, beef base, Parmesan cheese, pepper and salt. Form into 4 ounce patties.
  2. Place the burgers directly onto the grill and grill to desired temperature, 3-4 minutes per side. Carefully remove the burgers from the grill using a long handled spatula to a serving plate.
  3. Add the ketchup, sugar, vinegar, pepper, and sambal oelek to a small saucepan and cook over low heat for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. To serve, divide the ketchup evenly among buns, and top with burgers.
